This exceptional antique piece was crafted sometime during the Art Deco design period (1920-1940). The solitaire style is absolutely exemplary of the design period; featuring mixed antique diamond cuts, complex interlocking filigree and garland motifs, ribbons of richly hued custom cut sapphire accents, and extensive fine milgrain accents along with hand engravings. The center diamond is an antique Old European cut that measures approximately 1.17 carats(GIA). The diamond grades approximately J in color and VS1 in clarity (GIA). This antique diamond has been examined and certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The platinum setting features antique marquise cut diamonds along with lavish diamond garlands surrounding the central antique Old European cut. The garlands are made of 16 tiny sparkling diamond accents. The mixture of marquise cuts and old European cuts along with interlacing ribbons of rich blue sapphires gives this design the Cubism quality Art Deco artisans were striving for; abstract, geometrical, masculine, and richly complex. The setting also features fine filigree along the gallery and elegant floral hand engravings along the top half of the shank. The center diamond sets nicely lifted in a solitaire style which contributes to it’s brilliance, especially with the contrast of rich blue sapphires underneath. During this time period blue sapphires were symbolic of the enduring faithfulness and loyalty needed to sustain a marriage. Blue sapphires were often used in bridal jewelry during the Art Deco design period. This antique platinum ring is currently a size 8 & 1/2.
