This antique piece was crafted sometime during the Victorian design period (1840-1900). During the Victorian Era romantic themes prevailed, producing a lot of sentimental jewelry. This heart shaped locket is 10K gold and features extensive flourish style engravings. The locket has a tiny monogram space which has been dedicated with the name “Maria”. The locket opens from the bottom and hinges at the top. During the Victorian era the interior space might have been filled with a tiny portrait or perhaps a lock of hair. Lockets were very popular gifts during this time, particularly from brides to their bridesmaids. The locket measures approximately 3/4ths of an inch in length.
