This vintage piece was crafted sometime during the Mid Century, also known as the Retro, design period (1940-1960). This large cocktail ring features a brightly hued cabochon cut garnet in the center. Cocktail rings rose to popularity during the Prohibition Era (1920-1933) as a cheeky nod to breaking the rules. They were large, bold, and often colorful; worn on the dominant hand you hold a (at that time illegal) drink in. After the repeal of the 18th Amendment cocktail rings remained a jewelry essential. This vintage piece features a 14k gold setting arranged in an interlocking link motif. Today garnet is commonly associated with the 10th sign in the zodiac, Capricorn, and is considered the birthstone for January. This ring is currently a size 6.
